INFO

I’m interested in the collectivity of folklore / folk art versus the individuality of contemporary art. My work is colorful, decorative and somewhat humoristic on first sight but is built on complex layers. Inspired by folklore and (ancient) art history from various cultures over the world I research collective visual memory, transgenerational storytelling and theatricality of life and death. Ancient art and folklore are often pre-patriarchal where the woman is both an erotic and a maternal symbol at the same time. This is the inspiration for the carnal feminist aspect in my work.

Both working in the performance- and visual art world, I developed a multidisciplinary practice in which the mask and costume play a significant role. My materials are papier-mâché, crochet wool, textile, painting and ceramics. Also performance has been an important form. My finished works are often a combination of materials and forms used combined in one work or next to each other in a performance or installation.
